Oak Park Mall is one of the last “true” thriving malls in Kansas City. It is fully enclosed with tons of shopping and the all-important food court. There are multiple areas for kid of different ages to play – climbing area, carousal, trampoline jumper, and others. It is a great haven during hot or cold KC days.

Overall we like Oak Park Mall because:

  • Multiple areas to play for a wide range of ages
  • Indoor place to run around
  • A place you could spend a few minutes or a few hours
  • You can get some errands or shopping done and reward the little ones with playtime afterwards

Aristocrat Motors Play Area – great for younger kids and FREE
This almost fully enclosed area is for kids under 42” tall. The carpet looks like a city map and is fully cushioned. It includes:

  • 5 small play or climbing structures shaped like cars and bridges – kids can climb, slide down, or pretend to drive
  • A few puzzle games on the walls
  • Large seating area for parents
  • Area to run around
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers

Some of the play structure can be difficult for little ones to climb (especially with socks on), but they still love trying.

Rules
The rules in this area are strictly enforced by mall security (seriously, we are not kidding). The rules include:

  • Kids must be under 42” tall
  • No shoes
  • No strollers (stroller parking is outside the play area)
  • No food or drink
  • No jumping off play structures

This area is not fully enclosed. Kids can easily run out of the area – so beware if your kids like to escape

Bring quarters if your kids demand candy. They have strategically set up candy machines next to the play area. They have a wide variety of candy, but the machines only dispense a few pieces for each quarter.

Carousal – great for all ages. $1 per rider
Next to the Aristocrat Motors Play Area, there is a fantastic double-decker carousal. There are many different animals to ride. There are also benches for non-animal riders or those who get a bit motion-sick. For the thrill-seekers, there are spinning teacups to sit in. However, it is a short ride and is expensive. It costs a $1 per rider. There is a change machine next to the ticket-taker. If you child likes carousals, bring dollars! Credit cards are not accepted.

Mall Jump – for the older kids (between 20-200lbs). $7 for 2 minutes
The Mall Jump is, basically, like an extreme trampoline. Jumpers are harnessed to two bungee cables and jump on a special trampoline that launches them, safely, into the air. It is a cross between bungee jumping and jumping on a trampoline. You can have your kid’s picture taken in the air for an extra $3. Be aware: this ride is located in front of a small Zonkers Arcade and a candy store.

Don’t Miss – for all ages and FREE
On the second floor, above the Aristocrat Play Area, to the right of the escalator, is an interactive floor mat. It projects pictures onto the white mat and changes as you jump and move. It provides, at least, 5 to 10 minutes of entertainment

Insider Tips

  • Go early – it can get very crowded.
  • Bring a stroller – it is a large mall and you can end up walking a long way
  • If you use a stroller, do NOT use the escalator. This rule is strictly enforced by mall security. There is an elevator between the carousel and play area.
  • Avoid school holidays and major holidays
