If you are looking for an upscale family-friendly pizza place that also offers great salads, sandwiches, and wine – Spin! is the place to go. However, if the only pizza your kids eat is Papa John’s – you might want to look elsewhere. It is not a typical American-style pie. It is a thin crust, Italian style pizza. Think – “American pizza meets flat-bread”
Overall we like Spin! because:
- Family-friendly environment
- Fast and tasty
- Serve a variety of food – not just pizza
- Offer gluten free, whole wheat, and regular crust
- Great selection of wine and beer for the adults
- Kids get a free scoop of gelato (Italian ice-cream) with a kid’s meal
Hours:
Sunday – Thursday from 11am – 9pm
Friday – Saturday from11am – 10pm
Family Friendly Environment
Spin! has a very relaxed atmosphere with modern decor and interesting art work. The modern-style makes it a bit noisy, but that means – if your little ones are loud, no one will notice!! You order as soon as you walk in the door and choose your own seat (as long as they are not on a wait). A server will bring you drinks and add to your order if necessary, but you do not to have to rely on them much. This model makes eating very quick and efficient. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Sunday evening. We walked right in, placed our order, and sat at a table – no waiting! There were, at least, four other families with young kids eating, too. The server quickly brought over a highchair and our food was served within 10 minutes or less.
Pizza
Spin! offers unique pizzas with a variety of toppings. They make their pizzas with a red or white sauce. You can choose from the menu or build your own.
- Pizzas come in a 12 inch size
- Price: $9.95 to $12.95. (Feeds 2 to 3)
- It can get expensive if you are trying to feed a crowd
For Pizza, we suggest:
- Funghi (mushroom) pizza — tons of mushrooms, cheese, and red sauce. Yum!
- If you are looking for a pizza with white sauce, I would try the Cinque Formaggi (5 cheese). The pine nuts add an extra delicious crunch.
Salads:
They also offer a variety of salads to your meal.
- Save $$$: Order individual ½ salads and a pizza to share. That way you do not need to order as many pizzas.
For Salads, we suggest:
- Chopped BLT
- Greek
- Spin! Caesar
Each salad has lots of lettuce and many toppings! They will fill you up
“Meal Deal”
They do have a “meal deal” called the Pizza Mia! It includes a 6 inch pizza with a ½ salad or soup.
- Price: $8.95 – great for lunch.
Alcohol
Don’t forget the alcohol! Spin! offers a good, well-priced selection of wine. It averages $18 a bottle, but you can also order wine by the glass and ½ carafes. They also offer various beers by the bottle or pint.
Other Menu Items:
They also have deli sandwiches and grilled paninis.
- Price: $6.45 to $8.45 and come with chips or salad/soup for an increased charge
I have not tried these yet — I go for the pizza and salad!
Kid’s Menu
For kids under 12, Spin! does offer a special “bambino” menu. It includes:
- A special “kid size” cheese or pepperoni pizza or mac & cheese.
- Small scoop of gelato (fyi – it is small, but a little gelato goes a long way).
- Milk, apple juice, or soda
- Price: $4.95.
For Kids, we suggest:
My son LOVES pizza. He will eat any kind, any style, any time. He enjoyed the cheese pizza – almost ate the whole thing. If your child is a die-hard thick-crust, gooey-cheesy pizza lover, they might not like this style pizza. The mac & cheese is, basically, doctored-up Kraft. This is great for those kids who only eat Kraft mac & cheese. However, I found it a bit over-cooked. I think they just added a bit of cheese and warmed up a bowl when we ordered. The gelato is excellent! Especially if you have a fast eater, like I do. He enjoyed his small scoop while I got to finish my meal.
Insider Tips:
- Be sure to get the crayons and coloring page (ask the server or order-taker)
- Has patio seating for nice KC days
- If you like it, join the Spin! club. You can get rewards, specials and you get Spin! “dough” for every $200 spent.
- The kid’s drinks are served in styrofoam cups with a lid and straw. Bring a sippy cup if your little one has trouble with straws.
- At this location in KC, MO – the fabulous and much acclaimed Glaće gelato shop by Christopher Elbow is next door. If you can forgo the kid’s meal and have them share pizza with you, I would then head next door and have a unique treat. It is pricey, so share a scoop – it is delicious.
