Quailwood Park in Olathe is a nice, and fairly new park. Construction was completed in late 2009, making the park just about 2 years old at the time this article was written.
The playground has some neat features for kids, including a “secret entrance” to the top of the playground. There is a double ladder under the center of the structure that allows kids to climb up the middle. Since this is a little bit different, it enhances play for the kids.
Adjacent to the park is a nice open space for kids running. The open space is below some large power lines, so not the best place for kite flying but a great place to play catch or throw a Frisbee around.
Right next to the play equipment are a couple of nice benches to chill and watch the kids, and there’s also a 16 by 20 foot wooden shelter next to it. Because the wooden shelter is so close to the play equipment, it allows you to sit in the shade while watching the kids, or if you are having a picnic, you can be preparing the food in the shelter with the kids at the park pretty close to you.

- Small “spiderweb grid” for climbing
- Secret stairs lead to the top of the equipment

- Rubber padded surface (new)
Trail/Exercise Path
According to the Olathe Parks department, this park was created with the intent of hooking it into future plans for a jogging trail / bike path.
Covered Shelter
- One covered shelter, close to the park
- No Barbecue Grills
- Two picnic benches
Open Space
Nice open space area to the side of the park
Parking/Restrooms

Insider Tips
- Nice willow tree serves as a nice background for a few kid pictures or an impromptu family photo
- Park backs up to a few houses, so extra feeling of safety because it is not hidden or tucked away.
- No real bathrooms at this park are close by, and since it’s in a residential area, no real close businesses nearby either. Therefore, make sure you take care of business prior to your adventure at Quailwood Park.
- Newer drinking fountain with a lower doggie drinking fountain. This can also be used by toddlers when you are not watching, but NOT recommended for obvious health reasons! Hah!
- Want a nice conversation starter while at the park. Look at Olathe’s future plans for this park(PDF Illustration), including the jogging trail and you’ll be the expert.
