Porter Park is one of the larger parks in Prairie Village, KS. It is usually busy, but large enough that it is not too crowded. It has a large open space, 2 small baseball fields, half-basketball court, exercise track, play equipment, covered shelter, ample parking, and a port-a-potty.
Play Equipment
The play area is very large. It includes:
- 2 large, separate climbing structures
- One is taller – for the older kids
- 4 large slides
- Monkey Bars
- Wood chips underneath
- One is shorter – for the younger kids
- 4 smaller slides
- Noise makers
- Rubber chips underneath
- One is taller – for the older kids
- 2 regular swings
- 2 toddler swings
- Large sandbox with toys to share
- Large covered area with 2 picnic tables
- Water-fountains
- ½ basketball court
- Port-a-Potty is located near this area
Exercise Track
This is a short, 2-path flat track that circles around the park. The smaller path is perfect for kids learning to ride bikes. If you have older kids it is nice because you can be at the play equipment and still see your kids as they circle the track. It is far enough away from the road – so, you do not have to worry about traffic.
Covered Shelter
There is another full-covered shelter separate from the play equipment. It has:
- Multiple tables
- BBQ area
- 2 swings
- Tire swing
This is great for renting. It is separate from the play equipment, so it is a bit more private.
Open Space and Baseball Fields
These areas are set-off from the road so you do not have to worry about kids or balls rolling into the busy street. Great for running around, playing sports, or sitting on a blanket.
