Loading...Harmon Park is part of the large public pool/activity complex in Prairie Village, KS. It is usually busy in the summer, but very large. It is situated between the tennis court complex and public pool. There are various activities for a variety of ages and the park is very spread out. It has a large open space, 2 small baseball fields, exercise track, play equipment, covered shelter, ample parking, and a port-a-potty. Try to avoid the park when the high school, Shawnee Mission East, starts and dismisses school – the north parking lot will get very busy.
Play Equipment
The play area is large. It includes:
- 1 large climbing structure (geared for older kids, but the younger ones will have fun, too)
- 2 large twisty slides
- Monkey bars
- Balance beam
- 1 smaller separate slide
- Tic-tac-toe
- Rubber chips underneath
- 4 regular swings
- 4 toddler swings
- Large sandbox with a turtle to climb on – it does not have community toys
- Very large covered shelter with many picnic tables
- Water-fountains
- Restrooms are located in the covered shelter area
Covered Shelter
There is another full-covered shelter separate from the play equipment. It has:
- Multiple tables (50+ tables)
- BBQ area
- Restrooms
This is great for renting. It is separate from the play equipment, so it is a bit more private. It is very large, so there may be multiple parties booked at once.
Tennis Courts
The park is next to the tennis complex. There are 10+ courts – all in great condition. The complex is often used to local tournaments and high school matches. You can access the courts from the park-side of the complex. So, after you are done at the park you can play tennis with your kids. The courts are reserved for lessons and other leagues. Be sure to check the signs and be aware that you might have to give up your court or switch to another if it is reserved.
Insider tips
- Get there before school begins or before school is out – the parking lot gets very busy. Plus, somedays it is a hangout for high school kids.
- Great park for the summer – you can play at the park then hop in the pool.
