Oregon Trail Park is a park where you could spend an entire afternoon. It is located in Olathe, KS. It has all the features that make up a great park. It has wonderful play equipment with rubber mulch under it that is great for imaginative play, a walking trail, shelters, fishing, open play areas and more. It shares a parking lot with the Oregon Trail Baseball fields.  The park hours are 6am to midnight.

Play equipment

  • 2 slides
  • Spinning poles to climb on
  • A bouncing pole (almost like a stationary pogo stick)
  • Plenty of areas to climb through
  • A large sea dragon to climb on
  • A twisted ladder structure (great for the older climbers)
  • A fireman pole

Trail/Exercise Path

There is a great path for riding bikes, trikes, scooters and big wheels. Children can ride around the play equipment where you can keep a constant eye on them. Or you can go for a walk on the World Fitness Trail. It has signs and areas designated for different types of exercise.

Covered Shelters

There are two covered shelters at the park. Each has a BBQ grill. Both shelters are located by the play equipment. One of the shelters is located closer to the volleyball courts. They are decent sized shelters with 4 picnic tables under each. These shelters are not listed under shelters that need to be rented.

Open Space

Besides the volleyball courts, there is plenty of space to play and have fun. As you can see in some of the pictures, there is plenty of area to fly a kite, kick around the soccer ball or throw the Frisbee. This would be a great park to play croquet or bocce ball .

Fishing

This is one of the best docks I have seen at a park. The water contains 2 fountains. The dock is enclosed so that little ones won’t fall through. There is a sign by the docking telling you the limit on the fish you can catch. My kids love to just go down to the dock and look out because it is so pretty.

Parking/Restrooms

The parking lot is very large and can accommodate a large group. This is also the ball field parking lot, however, so during baseball season the lot will be crowded. The restrooms are located at the baseball complex.

Insider Tips

  • Bring bikes, bats, balls, kites, Frisbees, etc.
  • Beautiful place to enjoy a picnic lunch.
  • Avoid during baseball games if you don’t want a crowd
