South Lake Park is a wonderful park that is great for all ages. From climbers to older kids. There is plenty to do to keep them entertained.  It is located in the northern part of Overland Park and slightly hidden. There isn’t an entrance to the park off of the main road. The park hours are from 5am to 10pm daily.

Play Equipment

The play equipment is in it’s own contained area which makes it great for watching multiple children. There is a 5ft. wall around part of the equipment which keeps little ones from escaping.

  • 2 Toddler swings
  • 2 Big Kids Swings
  • 7 slides – tube slide, twisted slide, short slides for the little ones, taller ones for the bigger kids
  • Plenty of bridges and ladders and stairs.

Exercise Path

The walking trail is approximately .4 miles around. It is great for little kids to bring their bikes or trikes to ride around. Just beware that there isn’t a guard rail so stay close. Also beware of goose droppings while walking, jogging or biking.

Covered Shelters

  • At least 2 of the shelters are covered.
  • There are multiple other picnic tables in the park.
  • Tables do not need to be reserved. They are on a first come, first serve basis.

Open Space and a Basketball Court

  • There are 2 half court basketball courts
  • Plenty of open space to have a picnic with a lot of it being shaded by the large trees.

Fishing

Fishing can be a lot of fun at the park either off of the 2 docks or just sitting next to the pond.

Parking

2 small parking lots one of which is close to the restrooms.

Insider Tips

  • Stay close to the kids on bikes because of the lack of guardrail
  • BEWARE of the geese. There are signs not to feed them all around. Also beware of the goose droppings on the path:)
  • Be prepared to either tell your kids no or bring some money for ice cream. During the summer, the ice cream man frequents the park.
